Well, it's been a while since I last updated this. So, what's been happening?

A large portion of my time has been spent staring in horror at developments regarding the forthcoming war. This thing feels to me as if it's spiralling out of all control. Blair and Bush are firmly set upon their course of action (well, actually, Bush's course of action - but Blair seems insistent that we should be a part of it); and the rest of the world (or at least the parts of it that we are told about) seems dead set against Bush's plan. You would think that the opposition to a war from the rest of the world was a good thing. But, no, it seems that we're just going to ignore the rest of the world and go to war anyway. A part of me is terrified by this. The potential repercussions of sticking two fingers up at the rest of the world (even if the actual opposition to the war is only France, Germany, and Russia) inspires a great deal of fear in me. This will turn the whole thing into a crucible in which a new world order is born, and I'm not certain that we are gonna like it.

The army have been stationed at heathrow airport, in response to a threat that was at first general, then specific and now "of the nature that massacred thousands of people in New York". This smacks of a preparation for war to me. Get the populace worked up about terrorist threats, and then they'll be more pliable over the idea of war. The problem for those in power is that we don't, by and large, believe that Iraq has much to do with the specific terrorist threats that we are under. Blair and his cronies have tried convincing us, they've tried appearing on telly and attempting to be "truthful" and nothing that they have done has convinced us. So now they'll try and scare us into agreement. Now I hope that I'm wrong, and that there is a real threat. Not, of course, that anyone wants to see a disaster on the scale of 9/11, but if there is no threat and the government is engaged in deception, then the implications of engaging the military in this are terrifying. The military are not, and should never be, a tool for political manipulation of the UK populace. The idea of someone in whitehall believing that they are justified in using the army as a method of political gain terrifies me. How easy would it be for them to use the army to break up the Anti-war demo on saturday for "our own safety"? Hyperbole? Perhaps, but it illustrates the point that I am driving at.

In other news, what we have known for a long time has finally been recognised by the experts. I could have told them this a while back, but I guess it's nice to have it reaffirmed by the scientists.

And so to me. Last weeks evil illness has been exorcised by a large quantity of wine, lager and visiting friends. So I'm back on the social circuit once more.

Tonight I'm off to see the scottish play in Brum, with [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis and Nita and a few others. It's a modern day setting, so here's hoping that it's ok. Much to my chagrin I have decided to give Heresy on thursday a miss. A shame, as I would have liked to go - but finances are just not solid enough to take the strain that it would apply. Friday will involve heading "daan saaaf" with [livejournal.com profile] boglin for the ever-wonderful B-Movie, and seeing friends. On saturday I will mostly be marching and shouting and hoping that it all stays peaceful; and then meeting up with a friend from AO for beers in the evening. Thereafter, we will be heading to Brum for [livejournal.com profile] veelow feeding. Thereafter, I have no idea - but I bet it involves beer!

Other than that, life goes on. I've been playing a bit of AO, working on my forthcoming website, and writing. Yes, that's right, writing. I have a plan, about which I am quite excited. A plan involving a LARP game. I might talk to some of you at the weekend about it, as I'm probably going to need some help with the writing. Suffice it to say, I think it's gonna be wonderful.

I've just been chatting with a co-worker who's a regular performer / director at the Crescent to see what he knows about the production. Apparently what you're seeing is a touring production, rather than one produced in-house, and it's in the studio theatre - which he really likes as a space. He knows one of the cast and rates him prety highly - sounds as if it could be a good evening.
